Staples Inc., founded in 1986 and headquartered in Massachusetts, is an American office supply retail company. It expanded into Canada in 1991 and Europe in 1992.

By 1996, it joined the Fortune 500, and later acquired Quill Corporation. Staples also ventured unsuccessfully into telecommunications in the late 1990s. In the 2000s, it continued international expansion and acquired Medical Arts Press and Corporate Express.

Staples underwent significant changes, including store closures in North America, pivoting towards B2B and e-commerce. Sycamore Partners acquired Staples in 2017, restructuring the company into three entities.
