Stitcher, founded in 2007, was a media company specializing in the creation, distribution, and monetization of podcasts. It created original shows through networks such as Earwolf and Witness Docs, and provided ad sales and distribution services to over 300 shows.
It was one of the largest podcast listening apps. Stitcher was initially venture-backed and underwent several acquisitions: by Deezer in 2014, by Midroll Media in 2016 (which was itself acquired by The E.W. Scripps Company in 2015), and finally by SiriusXM in 2020 for $325 million.
As of August 29, 2023, Stitcher's podcast service was discontinued, with its parent company SiriusXM focusing on incorporating podcasts into its flagship subscription service. Stitcher's production side, including Stitcher Studios and Earwolf, is expected to continue operations.
