Masterworks, founded in 2017, is a platform for investing in securitized blue-chip artworks. It allows investors to purchase fractional shares of art pieces, making fine art investing accessible to a broader audience.

Masterworks files an offering circular with the SEC for each art piece, turning them into investable securities. The platform has over 780,000 members and over $853 million in assets under management as of August 2023. Masterworks charges a 1.5% annual management fee and takes a 20% cut when a painting sells.

It offers a secondary market for trading shares but liquidity is not guaranteed. Masterworks is a legitimate and registered investment advisor with the SEC.
