Founded in 1969 by Jerry Sanders and a team of technology professionals, AMD is known for its microprocessors, graphics processors, and other related technologies for business and consumer markets. The company initially focused on memory chips and other computer components, later expanding into the microprocessor market. AMD competes primarily with Intel.

It experienced significant growth in the early 2000s, especially with its Athlon and Opteron processors. After a challenging period, AMD regained market share with its Ryzen processors.
