He grew up in Melbourne, Florida, and attended the University of Central Florida, transitioning from a defensive end on the football team to the defense captain of the university's mock trial team. Bryan attended law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He worked as an assistant prosecutor, completed a civil rights law internship at the U.S.
Department of Justice, and later opened his own trial practice in West Virginia. Bryan specializes in civil rights law, focusing on lawsuits against police officers and government officials for rights violations. He has handled high-profile criminal defense and civil rights cases, including issues related to excessive force and freedom of speech.
Bryan is known for his resistance to West Virginia's COVID lockdown orders in 2020 and has argued numerous cases before the West Virginia Supreme Court and the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
